The medical transcription industry has changed dramatically over the past decade or so. The path to getting a good At Home Medical Transcription Job has definitely changed as well. Small mom and pop medical transcription companies have been gobbled up by large national companies and the rules of the game have changed. Medical transcription jobs are plentiful; however, these large national companies no longer have the time or patience to make the investment to train a new medical transcriptionist from scratch. The problem with this model should be immediately evident. It is the old chicken and egg syndrome. How can you get an at home medical transcription job if you don’t have experience and how can you get experience without a medical transcription job? You get the idea. Very frustrating indeed! Luckily, it wasn’t only problematic for new medical transcriptionists trying to get into the industry, it created a major problem for the medical transcription companies themselves. They ended up unwittingly bidding up the wages of the seasoned medical transcriptionists as they engaged in veritable bidding wars for the best talent — all the while snubbing their noses at recent graduates of medical transcription training programs. Well, they finally wised up. Why? Because it was in their best interests to do so. It was starting to hit them in the pocketbook. They decided to take another look at medical transcription training programs as a means of augmenting their medical transcription production capability. Medical transcription jobs for new graduates of medical transcription training programs have now become a reality - and in fact the norm, where for many years those doors had been closed.

Fortunately, there are a small handful of medical transcription training companies that have developed competency-based curriculums which prepare students in a very powerful way for an at home medical transcription job. These programs have caught the attention of the large national medical transcription companies and they are now opening their doors to graduates of select medical transcription schools.

However, in order to avoid wasting precious time and money - two commodities in very short supply today - you need to make sure you align yourself with the right school. I learned this lesson when I went back for an MBA. There were literally hundreds of schools willing to confer an MBA credential. And program prices were all over the board. However, as I did more research I discovered that what really mattered was the recruiting capability of the programs and this narrowed my list substantially. Just a small handful of programs could actually deliver documented employment results. It is no different in the search for a training program that will lead to a quality at home medical transcription job.
